Just like the Nile river brings life to Egypt, the Tagus river brings life to Portugal. It was the starting point of many explorers like Vasco da Gama and the focus point of many classic Portuguese songs and poems where they talk of the sailors that went out on the ocean and never came back. The ocean is ingrained in the culture of Portugal and still part of their daily life through their exquisite seafood dishes and pastries. To experience Lisbon you have to be on the Tagus at least once and as a bonus you get to see the 25th of April Bridge that commemorates the Carnation Revolution of 1974 and other monuments like the Cristo Rei and the tower of Belem.
What are you waiting for, ship ahoy!
